The Distinguished Personality
(Dr. Ilir Meta)
Ilir Meta was born on March 24, 1969 in Skrapar, Albania. He graduated in Political Economy at the Faculty Economics, University of Tirana, where he also finished his postgraduate studies.
Ilir Meta is a founder and President of the Board of Directors at the Institute for Peace, Development and Integration, and member of the International Commission on the Balkans.
Ilir Meta has an intensive political activity, starting from 1990 as an active participant in the students' movement that brought the demolition of the communist regime. Since 1992 he has been elected Member of Parliament in all legislatures, and member of several Parliamentarian Commissions. From 1996 to 1997 he was deputy chairman of the -Foreign Affairs Commission of the Parliament.
Dr. Ilir Meta
Ilir Meta is one of the co-founders of the Forum of the Euro-socialist Youth of Albania (FRESH), contributing to its accession to the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY). Ilir Meta held important leading positions within the FRESH as Deputy Chairman (1992-1995), and Chairman (1995-2001).
His political activity within the Socialist Party of Albania is quite intensive. He has been a member of the Party's Steering Committee from 1992 and a member of the Party's Presidency from 1993 up to the day he resigned (July 2003), after presenting to the Party's leadership pressing issues such as the lack of transparency, failure to deliver progress, and commitment to reforms from the Party's Chairman and Prime Minister, Fatos Nano.
Ilir Meta was Chairman of local branch of the capital city, Tirana (1997-1998). From 1993 to 1996 he held the important position of Party's Deputy Chairman and International Secretary, a time when relations with many socialist and social-democrat parties across Europe, European Socialist Party and the Socialist International were established.

Namik Dokle was born on 11th March 1946 in Durres, Albania, in a family with early patriotic traditions in the service of Albanian nation.
The Politician Namik Dokle
Namik Dokle was a brilliant student during his college years. He has finished his studies in two different fields where in each of them he was distinguished for his talent and intelligence. In 1969, he graduated in the Faculty of Journalism in the University of Tirana. One year later, in 1970, he graduated in the Faculty of Agrarian Economy in the Agricultural University of Tirana.
After graduation, Namik Dokle carried out different trainings in different fields and different countries. On July 1994 he made a Specialization Course of Spanish Language in the University of Complutense in Madrid. After that, on February 1995 he received a Specialization on Parliamentary Issues by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. On January 1997 he made another Specialization Course in the University of Complutense in Madrid which was focused on the transition problems.

Shpëtim Idrizi was born in Tirana, Albania, on 7th July 1967, in a family with patriotic traditions.
After finishing the secondary and high school with excellent results, Shpëtim Idrizi got the admission in the Faculty of Economics in the University of Tirana in 1987. He graduated in the branch of Business Administration in 1991 as one of the most brilliant students of the Faculty of Economics. Shpëtim Idrizi has also been participant in several training programs organized by important international institutions.
Shpëtim Idrizi was appointed Chief of Cabinet beside the Vice-Prime-minister and the Minister of Finance by the Council of Ministers from June 1991 to November of the same year. From January 1992 to February 1993 he was a Specialist at the National Agency of Privatization. Later, on February 1993 the National Agency of Privatization appointed him as Supervisor of the Sector of Major Privatization. In October 1993, Shpëtim Idrizi was appointed Chairman of the Branch of the Agency of Privatization beside the National Agency of Privatization until April 1994.
Mayor and Peace Missionary
Baftjar Zeqaj was born in Patos on 15.02.1961 in a family with patriotic traditions which has contributed continuously for its country, Albania. He passed his childhood in his birthplace, where he finished the elementary and high school.
Baftjar Zeqaj graduated as a geologist engineer for petroleum and gas in 1985. He has finished several postgraduate specializations in the field of sedimentation. He has also finished the Master studies for Public Administration.
From 1985 – 1992 Baftjar has worked in the most important sector for the Albanian economy, the petroleum sector as engineer in the Institute of Petroleum Studies and Projection in Fier. Here he has been evaluated for intellectual and scientific skills and has given important contributions in the implementation of new sedimentation concepts in search of gas sources in Albania where he has been leader of some geological studies.
After of demolition of the communist system in Albania, with the changes of '90, he was committed to the political life where he was appointed as head of the movement for the reformation of Albanian society and institutions. In the first pluralist elections of 1992 he was elected Mayor of Patos.
